December, 2013: The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's fastpitch softball team landed their first recruit for the 2015 season as Anna Boué decided to further her education at MVNU and continue her softball career with the Lady Cougars. Boué, a pitcher/ utility player from Columbus, Ohio, has been a member of the Thomas Worthington High School varsity team since her freshman season when she moved up from the junior varsity team for the district tournament after being the junior varsity Most Valuable Player. She has also had a tremendous amount of travel softball success as a member of the Buckeye Heat (2008-2012), Cincinnati Doom 16U (Fall 2012-Summer 2013), and Cincinnati Doom Elite 18U (Fall 2013-present).  In her most recent season this fall, she posted a 9-0 record with 69 strikeouts in 46 innings. "Anna is an outstanding pitcher," said MVNU coach Jeana Howald. "Our expectation is for her to come in and compete immediately on the mound for us. She is a quality person, excellent student and comes from a great supportive family. In addition to her success on the softball diamond, Boué carries a 3.95 grade point average and was elected to the National Honor Society as a junior, and will receive the State of Ohio Honors Diploma. She volunteers at the Worthington Food Pantry, assistant teaches Sunday School at her church, and was a youth basketball coach. She earned scholar-athlete awards every year, as well as the Academic Bronze, Silver, and Gold key awards." Anna has also been named a Mount Vernon Nazerene University (MVNU) "Heritage Scholar," and thus will receive both athletic and academic scholarships.

Macey Gunther

The Cincy Doom organization is proud to announce that Macey Gunther has verbally committed to attend and play softball for Wright State University, she gonna be a Raider!!.  Macey is in her 2nd year with the organization. We first met Macey in a private tryout, she travelled all the way from Youngstown to show us what she had. Tim and I were both impressed and immediately I offered her a spot, best decision I ever made for my team. Macey added so much to our team dynamic, a mature and previously well coached student-athlete that always shows respect for staff and teammates and worked hard, very hard on improving her game.  Macey had to make some hard decisions in the past few years, leaving her old team and getting to know and play with a new team at a critical time in her journey. We are so happy for her and look forward to the upcoming season that will allow us to continue to see her grow. Congratulations to Keith and Jill Gunther, they truly have a remarkable family.

Congratulations

Kat came to us from the Riptides and has been a huge part of our team’s success. Kat is our Left fielder and has made plays that make grown men cry (because they wish they were that good). Kat attends Lakota West High School and has maintained a GPA in excess of 4.0, she is a perfect example of what a student-athlete should be. John Miller and I both have considered it a privilege to have coached such a well-rounded individual. Congratulations to Dave and Robin Burbrink, all of their hard work has benefited Kat as well as our entire organization. The Burbrink family is one of the hardest working softball families we have had for the DOOM. We wish Kat all the best and we know this young lady will be successful in all she does in life. On a more personal note, I have watched this young lady play ball for and against us for quite a few years and I could not be happier for her, seeing her commitment to her studies and softball has been inspiring and humbling. Congrats KAT. (meow)

A fierce competitor, Casey's "refuse to lose mentality" is contagious to her fellow teammates. The Kings High School product takes this mentality to the classroom where she sports a 4.2 GPA.  Congratulations to Casey and her parents, Jay and Kim, for earning the ultimate softball prize, a college softball scholarship.
